RETIREMENTS
Barbara Beam, retiring after 27 years as organist at Oakland Baptist Church, Rock Hill, S.C., effective July 31.
Sylvia Clyborne, retiring after 17 years in the offices of pastoral care, counseling, missions and senior adults at First Baptist Church, Greenville, S.C.
Dennis Myers, retiring as director of missions of Southside Baptist Association, Victoria, Va., effective April 30. He has served there for over 11 years.
Shelden Timmerman, retiring as associate minister of music at Oakland Baptist Church, Rock Hill, S.C., effective July 31. He has served there since 1985.
Linda Ward, retiring after 20 years as minister of education at Walnut Hills Baptist Church, Williamsburg, Va.
Ronnie White, retiring after 14 years as pastor of First Baptist Church, Cross Plains, Texas.
DEATHS
David M. Becker, 60, died March 15 in Fort Worth, Texas. During 41 years in full-time ministry, he was pastor of Arnet Baptist Church, Gatesville, Texas; Shelden Baptist Church, Stephenville, Texas; University Heights Baptist Church, Huntsville, Texas; and First Baptist Church, Granbury, Texas. He also was pastor of churches in Hattiesburg, Miss., and Muskogee, Okla. He was vice president of the Baptist General Convention of Texas and served on the BGCT Executive Board, Christian Life Commission and Effectiveness and Efficiency Committee. He is survived by his wife, Melissa; daughters, Kristen Becker Cameron and Kelsey Becker Adams; son, Tyler; and three grandchildren.
Paul Martin, died March 23 in Denver, Colo. He was president/CEO and professor of pastoral theology at American Baptist Seminary of the West in Berkley, Calif. Under his leadership the seminary became ecumenical, serving more than 20 Christian denominations, including American Baptist Churches USA and the Progressive National Baptist Convention. He served in professional ministry for nearly 60 years, including more than 50 years as pastor of congregations in California, Colorado and Virginia. He began at ABWS after 16 years as senior pastor of Macedonia Baptist Church in Denver. He is survived by his wife, Agnes.
Rebecca Reynolds, 76, died March 25 in Dallas, Texas. A former Cooperative Baptist Fellowship field personnel and retired chaplain, she served alongside her husband, Jerry, as a short-term missionary in Jordan through CBF’s Global Service Corps program from 1996-1998. She was also a CBF-endorsed hospital chaplain from 2002 until her retirement in 2012. In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Martha Reynolds, Sarah Reynolds and Rachel Black.
