The trial of a former Union University student charged with murdering his fiancée 16 months ago has been postponed a second time.
Charles Pittman, a former Christian ministries major and member of the golf team at the Baptist-affiliate school in Jackson, Tenn., is now scheduled to stand trial Nov. 2 on charges stemming from the death of Olivia Greenlee, 21, a music education major from Dyersburg, Tenn., who was found dead from a gunshot wound in a parked car on a campus parking lot Feb. 12, 2014.
Pittman, 22, charged with first-degree murder and tampering with evidence, was originally scheduled to stand trial in May. That date was postponed to Sept. 28 due to a backlog of forensic evidence at the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation crime lab.
According to the Jackson Sun, attorneys told Judge Roy Morgan June 15 that some witnesses were unavailable for the September date. After discussing possible trial dates with witnesses, lawyers agreed on a trial date of Nov. 2.
Pittman now has until Sept. 8 to accept a plea agreement, if he chooses to do so, before the case proceeds to trial.
