I am a member of Huguenot Road Baptist Church in Richmond, Va., and I work for the Ministering to Ministers Foundation. I just read the article about Doug Hart from Sandston and the difficulties he and his family are going through.
I wanted to give praises to my church, for all the love and support they have given to my family since Jan. 19, 2011. Our then 26-year-old daughter, Katie, fell down our front porch steps (eight steps) and landed on her head that day, resulting in a severe traumatic brain injury and following surgery, suffered three strokes. It has been and continues to be a long journey as Katie moves toward healing. She was in MCV for six months, followed by seven months at HealthSouth Rehab Hospital in Petersburg. She has now been home for seven weeks as we seek to get her into Sheltering Arms for further rehab.
Every day we must put our trust and hope in God. He has done miraculous things! He has stirred the Huguenot Road congregation, which is a missional church, into action on our behalf since Katie’s accident. We have received over 150 meals from the church family and other friends, a Bible study class built a beautiful ramp to give Katie access to our house, members have visited with Katie for countless hours to provide respite for my husband, Joe, and me. We have received countless cards and gifts of prayer for Katie’s recovery and encouragement for us. We have so much for which to be thankful. I hope you will mention how wonderful the Huguenot Road Baptist Church family is!
