On Mission

Don Bryant

Jean Hunter

The 33 churches of the Dan River Baptist Association offer many ministries to meet the needs of people in the Halifax, Va., area. Its school supply ministry which started as a one-day program has now developed into a year-round outreach. Partnering with Halifax County schools, social services and Tri-County Community Action, school supplies are made available to children of low-income families. Don Bryant, pastor of Southside Baptist Church, was school supply ministry coordinator. In September the association initiated a prayer shawl ministry as Jean Hunter, member of Beth Car Baptist Church, gave instruction on knitting and crocheting. The shawls will be given those who are ill or need encouragement. This is open to anyone. For additional information, contact the DRBA office at 434.572.2608.

Stop Hunger Now

Impact Virginia

James River Baptist Association’s goal for 2011 of raising awareness of mission needs, reaching its community with a focus on young people and showing the love of Jesus Christ has generated excitement and provided opportunities for service. JRBC hosted Impact Virginia July 17-23. Thirteen teams of teen and adult volunteers, 167 people in all, worked on 11 homes doing roofing, constructing handicap ramps, repairing foundations and taking care of other numerous home repairs. In March over 100 volunteers gathered to package meals for Stop Hunger Now. By the end of the day, 17,280 meals had been bagged, sealed and packed for shipment to children in Botswana. With previous packing events providing meals to children in Haiti and the Ivory Coast, JRBA churches have packed more than 65,000 meals.
