RETIREMENT
• Lewis McElfresh, pastor of Summit Point Church, Summit Point, W. Va., has retired after having served the church for four years.
DEATH
• Lucy Palmer of Virginia Beach. died Feb. 21. She was a lifelong Baptist with a heart for missions. She served on the board of the Woman’s Missionary Union of Virginia, the Virginia Baptist Mission Board, the Religious Herald, and as WMU director for Norfolk Association. She was a member of Thalia Lynn Church, Virginia Beach. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth; daughters, Linda Clay and Nancy Mairs; three grandsons and a sister. A funeral service was held Feb. 25 at Thalia Lynn Church.

• Penuel Church, Altavista, will hold a spiritual renewal emphasis with Kevin and Christy Garber on April 3 at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. and April 4-6 at 7 p.m.
• Tabernacle Church, South Hill, will hold spring revival March 27-29 with Carl Bagley as evangelist.

• Main Street Church in Emporia celebrated WMU Focus Week on Feb. 13. Members of the Women’s Missionary Union led the worship service and sang in the choir. Guest speaker was Anne Forder, wife of interim pastor Rand Forder, and the vocalist was Leary Davis. Main Street Baptist has five WMU circles that are involved in mission projects throughout the year. They fix hospice bags, visit patients at the nursing home, keep the food pantry stocked and, at Christmas, provide food, toys, clothes and shoes for a needy family. They collect toiletries for the Hope Project and are involved in the Operation Christmas Child shoe box collection by Samaritan’s Purse.
