MISSION MOMENT: The Women on Mission at Central Hill Baptist Church in Windsor keep busy with a prayer shawl ministry for service men and women. Shawls are knit and crocheted and shipped to the Dover Air Force Base in Dover, Delaware, where they are distributed by Army Chaplain Chuck Wallace. Recently the women completed 34 prayer shawls that will be given to family members of soldiers who are killed in action. The nationwide program is referred to as PS4FS (Prayer Shawls for Fallen Soldiers). ORDINATIONS
• Beth Brawley Stoddard and Chauncey Starkey were ordained to the gospel ministry on Feb. 27 by Powhatan Community Church, Powhatan. Beth serves as director of creative arts at PCC and Chauncey serves as pastor of its Powhatan campus.
• Richard Lavoie was ordained to the gospel ministry by Richland Church, Hartwood, on Feb. 13.
MISSION MOMENT: Children’s Ministry Day each February enables thousands of childen to participate in ministry projects. This year’s theme was “Neighbor to Neighbor” and on Feb. 13 the children at James Square Baptist Church in Lawrenceville, baked homemade cookies for neighbors around the church. Everyone enjoyed the visits and the time spent together for lunch. CHURCH NEWS
• One Accord, the auditioned adult choral ensemble of First Baptist Church, Richmond, will present a concert entitled From Glee to Joy on Sat., April 9 at 7 p.m. The concert will feature a wide variety of music, ranging from Broadway to Handel, including solos, small ensembles and choral anthems. The concert is free.
• The adult and brass choirs of Freemason Street Church, Norfolk, will present Soli Deo Gloria on March 27 at 3 p.m.
• Gourdvile Church, Rixeyville, will hold revival services March 20-23 with Jeff Light as evangelist.
• Lakeside Church, Richmond, celebrated its 60th anniversary on March 13 with worship and a reception following the service.
• Rings Chapel Church, Castlewood, will hold revival March 27-April 1 with Darrell Fletcher as evangelist.
OTHER
• The Virginia Baptist Women’s Chorale will be in concert Sat., March 26 at 6 p.m. at Northside Church, Mechanicsville. The program includes traditional and contemporary styles of music. The Chorale is composed of ladies from across the state who have music leadership roles in their churches.
