I think what Elmer Towns of Liberty University is trying to say [“Situational ethics at Liberty seminary?”, Herald, May 13] when he downplays Ergun Caner’s exaggerations, misrepresentations, conflicting stories and downright lies is “the end justifies the means” — an idea that does not come from the Sermon on the Mount.
On the contrary, false and bad means discredit the end and hamper its achievement. The Church has painfully learned this lesson time and again. But we are prone to forget it.
