R E T I R E M E N T

Homer South, pastor of Beulah Church, Schley, has announced plans to retire, effective June 30. He has served as pastor since 1995.

C H U R C H • N E W S

Antioch Church, Red Oak, will hold a celebration service on Feb. 13 at 7:00 p.m., praising God with music and testimonies.

Main Street Church, Emporia, hosted the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of Virginia capital region rally on Jan. 15. The rally was led by David Roberts, pastor of Main Street Church, and John Mathis, pastor of High Hills Church in Jarratt and CBFV capital region coordinating council representative. Messages with emphasis on stewardship, congregational life, peer learning groups and evangelism were led by Rick Clore, Jim Hunter, Rick Bennett and Cecil Sherman.

D E A T H

Former Virginia Baptist pastor Robert F. Ellis died Jan. 28 at the age of 70. He had served as pastor of Mine Road Church in Spotsylvania; Alum Spring Church, Culpeper; Jeffersonton Church, Jeffersonton; Liberty Church, Hopewell; Antioch Church, Scottsville; and New Hope Church, Appomattox. He is survived by his wife, Beatrice S. Ellis; a sister, Hilda Smith; and a brother, Elvin L. Ellis. Funeral services were held Jan. 31 at Mine Road Church, Spotsylvania, with interment in the church cemetery.

Former Virginia Baptist pastor Freddie Marshall died Jan. 1 in Missouri. He had served as pastor of Blackberry Church in Bassett. At the time of his death he was pastor of Belvidere Heights Church, Grandview, Missouri. He is survived by his wife, Maryann Marshall, and eight children.
