Staff Changes

Kelly Dampeer Sr., to Cedar Bluff Church, Buchanan, as pastor.

Sam Harvey Jr., to Riverdale Church, Roanoke, as interim pastor.

Todd Kube, to Falmouth Church, Falmouth, as interim pastor.

Richard Hanks, to Pocahontas Bassett Church, Bassett, as interim pastor.

Agnes French, to Williamsburg Church, Williamsburg, as pastoral associate for music ministries.

Amy Farinelli, to Park View Church, Portsmouth, as part-time minister to youth.

Death

Retired Virginia Baptist pastor S. Felton Carter died on May 13 at the age of 80. He had lived in Virginia, Tennessee, Ohio and Maryland while serving as a Baptist minister for over 55 years. At the time of his death, he was a member of Mount Hermon Church, Danville. He is survived by his wife, Gertrude Moore Carter; two sons, T. Wayne and Timothy F. Carter; a daughter, Jean C. Randolph; two brothers, Charles E. and Alvis Ray Carter; seven grandchildren and three step-grandchildren. Funeral services were held May 17 at Mount Hermon Church, Danville. Interment in Highland Burial Park, Danville.

Church News

The IMAGE youth choir of Derbyshire Church, Richmond, will open its 2005 touring season with a home concert on June 19 at 6:00 p.m. This 7th-12th grade choir will present six concerts in different churches and retirement communities as part of its ‘05 Buckeye Tour to Cincinnati, Ohio.

Meadows of Dan Church, Meadows of Dan, is celebrating its 150th anniversary on June 26. Beginning at 10:00 a.m. and continuing throughout the day, there will be various music groups and choirs, messages from former pastors, a media room and good food and fellowship. Michael Shockley is pastor.

Awards

Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, N.C. honored its most outstanding students on May 19. The Elizabeth White Williams Award in Christian Ethics was awarded to Jonathan David Via of Roanoke. Tracy Elizabeth Blackburn of Radford was awarded The Ellis W. Hollon Jr. Award in Philosophy of Religion. Receiving The Joe B. Brown Preaching Award was Michael Carl Smith of Virginia Beach.

Other

The Richmond Chapter of the American Guild of Organists announces its annual New Organist Scholarships which will be awarded to up to three qualified adults and young persons who will be entering grades 7 or above. Qualified students must have a strong commitment to serving in the music ministry; have no prior organ instruction; demonstrate a high degree of musicianship; audition on piano and (if a young person currently studying piano) have the piano teacher's approval.
