Bluefield College recently approved a tobacco free policy for its entire campus.
Scheduled to become effective Aug. 15 the new policy is a revised version of the school's previous tobacco use policy, said Dan Bowman, dean of students at the Virginia Baptist-affiliated school.
The older policy prohibited the use of tobacco in any college facility or in entry areas adjacent to campus buildings, but did allow the use of tobacco in designated outside smoking areas on campus. The new policy forbids smoking or the use of smokeless tobacco anywhere on campus, Bowman said. “The entire campus will be tobacco free.”
Bowman said the administration believes the stronger stance will promote the institution's purpose of “providing opportunities for growth of mind, body and spirit.”
