Retirement
W. Robert May has retired as pastor of Fox Hill Road Church, Hampton, following almost 20 years of ministry there.
Death
Former Virginia Baptist pastor Charles D. Page Sr. died in Charlotte, N.C. on Oct. 28 at the age of 66 following a nine-year struggle with cancer. He served as pastor of Pocahontas Bassett Church, Bassett, from 1972-74. At the time of his death he was pastor of First Church, Charlotte, where he had served since 1991. He is survived by his wife, Sandra; two sons, Robbie and David; and four grandsons. A memorial service was held Nov. 2 at First Church, Charlotte.
Church News
Courtland Church, Courtland, will commemorate its 160th anniversary with homecoming Dec. 4. The morning service will begin at 10:00 a.m. and a fellowship dinner will be served at 12 noon.
New Hope Church, Skipwith, will celebrate homecoming Nov. 20. Former pastor J. Spurgeon Hays Jr. will be guest speaker at the 11:00 a.m. service which will be followed by lunch.
West Hampton Church, Hampton, will host a conference led M. Rex Miller, author of The Millennium Matrix: Reclaiming the Past, Reframing the Future of the Church on Sat., Dec. 12 from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon. Cost is $20 and reservations can be made by contacting the church at 757-938-9793 by Dec. 7.
Winfall Church, Winfall, celebrated its 100th anniversary on Oct. 9 with an old-fashioned meeting at which Dr. William E. Hatcher (portrayed by Fred Anderson was guest speaker. The celebration included good singing, the sharing of memories by former pastors, fellowship and plenty of food at the luncheon following the service. Charles P. Anderson Jr. is pastor.
