Ordinations
John R. Love was ordained to the gospel ministry on March 19 by Thornburg Church, Thornburg.
Roger L. Jones, minister of youth and children at Hillcrest Church, Ridgeway, was ordained to the gospel ministry by the church on May 7.
Death
David Adair Hoagland, pastor of Dublin Church, Dublin, died on April 18 at the age of 59. He had served on the Virginia Mission Board and as moderator for Lynchburg and New Lebanon associations. Hoagland was chaplain at the Pulaski Community Hospital and was also involved in chaplain training. He officiated for over 25 years for high school sports in Lynchburg, Grundy and Northern Virginia. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Louise Thompson Hoagland; a son, Scott Lamar Hoagland; a daughter, Jessica Ruth Kirby; two grandchildren; his mother, Audrey Williams Hoagland; and a brother, Donald C. Hoagland. Funeral services were held April 22 at Dublin Church, Dublin.

Old Powhatan Church, Powhatan, will celebrate its 235th anniversary on May 21 at 10:30 a.m. Jim Hammacher, executive director of Middle District Association, will be guest speaker. Dinner on the grounds will follow the service.
New Life Church, Ferrum, will celebrate homecoming on May 21 with former pastor Harold Draper as guest speaker.
Blairs Church, Blairs, will celebrate homecoming on May 21. Guest speaker will be Cliff Hudgins, director of missions for Pittsylvania Association.
Chatham Heights Church, Martinsville, will have a homecoming service on May 21 at 1:00 a.m. Guest speaker is Rick Cole. A lunch will follow the service.

Pocahontas Bassett Baptist Church, Bassett, honored eight of its members who have amassed 740 years of faithful membership on April 9. Vera Craig, its oldest member, is 98 and a charter member who has 66 years of service. John L. McGhee, 93, is also a charter member and in his 66 years has served as a deacon. Bob Armstrong, 93, has been a member for 59 years and was elected deacon emeritus. Susan Armstrong, 91, a member for 59 years, was organist for 42 years and was elected organist emeritus. Bob Coleman, 92, has been a member for 64 years and Finley Gale, 93, has been a member for 55 years and served as deacon. Kathryn Craig, 90, has been a member for 54 years. The congregation is thankful for these octogenarians.
Powers Memorial Church, Hopewell, dedicated its new pictorial directory in honor of Rena Chandler Mitchell for her devotion to the Woman's Missionary Union and missions throughout the world on Feb. 19. She is the director of the WMU at Powers Memorial and has been on 32 mission trips.
There will be a Memorial Service for W. Landon Miller on Sunday, May 21 at 2:00 p.m. at Northminster Church, Richmond. Miller was pastor at Northminster Church from 1965-1985.
Richmond Hill will sponsor a retreat on May 19-21 on “Coping with Chronic Pain in a Christian Context.” It will foster a leisurely interplay of teaching sessions and self-directed activities.
