Retirements
David Hughes has retired as minister of music at Orcutt Church, Newport News.
Terry Welborn has announced plans to retire as pastor of Dover Church, Manakin-Sabot, effective Sept. 30.
John Mann has announced plans to retire as pastor of Bethany Church, Woodford, effective Sept. 30.
Ordination
Randy Moore was ordained to the gospel ministry on May 28 by Nash's Chapel Church, Wise.
Church News
Azalea Church, Norfolk, will host an evening of gospel music featuring The Harvesters Quartet from Sanford, N.C. on Friday, June 23 at 7:30 p.m.
Fieldale Church, Fieldale, celebrates homecoming June 25 at 10:45 a.m. Carl Flick and Margaret Stegall, two of the “Fieldale Ten” who volunteered for Christian service in 1950, will lead the service. A lunch will follow.

Fil-Am Community Church calls first pastor
Engracio T. (Bot) Samson was installed as the first permanent pastor of the Fil-Am Community Church on May 13. Samson comes to the church from the Philippine Baptist Theological Seminary where he has been a professor of biblical studies and pastoral care for 12 years. He received his doctorate from the Asia Baptist Theological Seminary in Baguio City. Church planter and interim pastor Charlie Chilton presided over the installation service held in the chapel of Winfree Memorial Church in Midlothian, where the congregation currently meets. Also present were pastors of the three sponsoring Filipino churches, representatives from the Virginia Baptist Mission Board, Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of Virginia and Middle District Baptist Association. Fil-Am Community Church becomes the second Filipino church to affiliate with the CBF, the other also in Virginia.
Groundbreaking in Southside Association
Southside Association broke ground on a building for its Hispanic congregation, the Iglesia Hispana Bautista Anastasis, on May 20. Approximately 113 people were on hand for the service presided over by Ted Smith, pastor of Ash Camp Church, Keysville. Pastor Juan Carlos Gascon delivered a challenge to the church. Also participating were John Pond, Charles Smith, Wayne Faison, G.C. Harbuck Jr., Jon Parks and Rod Hale. There was a fellowship meal following the service.
