Baptist News Global and the Association of Welcoming and Affirming Baptists will co-sponsor a breakfast featuring Paul Raushenbush during the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship General Assembly this June.
Raushenbush, an ordained Baptist minister, leads Interfaith Alliance, a Washington, D.C.-based group founded to counter the Religious Right and advance democracy through an interfaith coalition.
He is host of “The State of Belief” podcast and speaks around the country on the topic of religion and democracy. He is frequently quoted in BNG articles.
Before joining Interfaith Alliance, Raushenbush served as senior advisor for public affairs and innovation at Interfaith America, senior vice president at Auburn Seminary, founding and executive editor of HuffPost Religion, and associate dean of religious life and the Chapel at Princeton University. He also served three churches in pastoral roles.
The breakfast will be held at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 25, at Hyatt Regency St. Louis at The Arch.
Individual tickets are $45 and tables of 10 may be reserved for $500. Ticket sales are part of the registration process for CBF General Assembly.
“In the spirit of doing more together, AWAB is delighted to co-host a General Assembly breakfast with BNG, said Brian Henderson, AWAB executive director. “We’re also grateful to have Paul Raushenbush, an out-member of the LGBTQ community as our keynote speaker as he speaks truth to power at this time in history.”
“After years of sponsoring major events on our own at General Assembly, BNG is thrilled this year to collaborate with AWAB to bring Paul Raushenbush to a CBF audience,” said BNG Executive Director Mark Wingfield. “We are blessed to have a constellation of great allies such as AWAB in the CBF network.
“Paul’s message is right for this time in America’s history and will challenge the church to wake up and become advocates for the true gospel of Jesus Christ that embraces all people.”
