Trustee nominations, committees named for SBC entities

Nominees to serve on the Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee, the International Mission Board, the North American Mission Board, LifeWay Christian Resources GuideStone Financial Resources, the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, the six seminaries and the committee on order of business have been selected by the 2006 SBC committee on nominations.

Nominees will serve if elected by the messengers to the annual meeting of the SBC, June 13-14 in Greensboro, N.C.

Nominees from Virginia are:

Executive Commitee: Rodney F. Autry, senior pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Manassas (SBCV), to a term to expires in 2010, replacing Archie R. Smith, Virginia Beach, who was ineligible for reelection.

Nominated for term to expire in 2009 is James T. Davis, layperson, Kingsland Baptist Church, Richmond (SBCV), replacing John Marks, Chesterfield, who resigned.

GuideStone Financial Resources: No Virginia vacancies this year.

International Mission Board: No Virginia vacancies this year.

North American Mission Board: No Virginia vacancies this year.

LifeWay Christian Resources: No Virginia vacancies this year.

Southern Seminary: Brian D. Autry, senior pastor of Parkway Baptist Church, Midlothian (SBCV), to a term to expire in 2011, replacing Ricky J. Ewing, Lynchburg, who declined to serve.

Southwestern Seminary: No Virginia vacancies this year.

New Orleans Seminary: No Virginia vacancies this year.

Southeastern Seminary: No Virginia vacancies this year.

Midwestern Seminary: No Virginia vacancies this year.

Golden Gate Seminary: No Virginia vacancies this year.

Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission: William A. Thomas Jr., Bon Air Baptist Church, Richmond (BGAV), to a second term.

Order of Business Committee: No Virginia nominees this year.

In other action, SBC president Bobby Welch has named members to several committees. Virginians named are:

Committee on Committees: Mark Becton, Grove Avenue Baptist Church, Richmond (SBCV); Jim Davis, Kingsland Baptist Church, Chester (SBCV).

Credentials Committee: No Virginians nominated this year.

Tellers Committee: Rick Caldwell, pastor of Concord Baptist Church, Farmville (SBCV); Jackie Carver, pastor of Palestine Baptist Church, Huddleston (SBCV/BGAV); Daniel Dockery, pastor of Liberty Baptist Church, Appomattox (SBCV); Robert Rowland, pastor of Smyrna Baptist Church, Dinwiddie (SBCV/BGAV); Tim Smith, member of Liberty Baptist Church, Hampton (SBCV).
