Bluefield, W.Va., pastor Ed Fisher to be nominated as BGAV’s second vice president in November

NewsJim White  |  October 9, 2013

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. — Edward Fisher, pastor of First Baptist Church in Bluefield, W.Va., will be nominated as second vice president of the Baptist General Association of Virginia when it meets in Fredericksburg, Va., Nov. 12-13.

Bluefield, W.Va., pastor Ed Fisher will be nominated as the BGAV’s second vice president in November.

Traci Powers, pastor of Westhaven Baptist Church in Portsmouth, Va., announced Oct. 9 she plans to nominate Fisher, who has been senior pastor at the Bluefield church since 2003.

“Ed has proven to be a very willing, capable and dedicated servant to the Virginia Baptist Mission Board, serving on the emerging leaders committee, which he will chair this year,” said Powers. “Ed truly has a passion for advancing the Redeemer’s kingdom and possesses a servant’s heart. Through his work on the Mission Board he has proven to be insightful, reliable and wise.

“Ed will serve faithfully as second vice president, and I know the BGAV will be strengthened through his service,” she said.

From 1996 to 2003 Fisher was pastor of First Baptist Church in Staunton, Va., and earlier was pastor of Sharon Baptist Church in Green Bay, Va. He has been a member of the Mission Board since 2009 and has served on the BGAV’s Christian life committee. He also has been active the East River Baptist Association, the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of Virginia and Virginia Baptists Committed.

A native of Baltimore, Fisher is a 1990 master of divinity graduate of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and holds a bachelor of arts from Samford University in Birmingham, Ala. He and his wife, Donna, have two children.

Earlier announcements indicated that Blacksburg pastor Tommy McDearis, current BGAV first vice president, will be nominated for president and Ann Brown, former president of Woman's Missionary Union of Virginia, will be nominated for first vice president.
