The open house will be held at the newly purchased house called “The Wyatt House.” The purpose of the Wyatt House ministry is to provide housing, church fellowship and love to Southern Baptist personnel on stateside assignment. The Wyatt House dedication will take place during the 8:30, 10:00 and 11:15 a.m. services at Cool Spring. Roy Wyatt grew up attending Cool Spring Church. Originally planning to study law, he was moved by the words to a familiar hymn sung by a young woman on a student trip, “I'd rather have Jesus than houses or lands …” and Cool Spring pastor Mercer Clark, who preached on Isaiah 6 when the Lord spoke to the young man Isaiah, not then a prophet, saying, “Whom shall I send? Who will go for me?” Isaiah responded, “Here I am, send me.” Roy went on to graduate from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. He married the former Joyce Cope from Rogersville, Tenn., and they had three children. The Wyatts were appointed as international missionaries to Spain in 1953. After serving as the director of the Spanish Baptist Seminary in Barcelona until 1962, he served as associate director of the Baptist Academy in Temuco, Chile, while teaching Bible and philosophy. In 1967 he was invited to serve as professor of Old Testament and Hebrew at the International Baptist Theological Seminary in Cali, Columbia, South America, where he served until his retirement in 1993. Wyatt then served as distinguished professor of Old Testament and Hebrew at the School of Divinity, Gardner-Webb University in North Carolina, until his second retirement in 1996. The Wyatt's now live in Knoxville, Tenn.
