MISSIONS MOMENT

Volunteers from Amherst Baptist Church in Amherst putt the roof on Habitat for Humanity House #27 in Madison Heights on July 19.

• Derbyshire Church, Richmond, has called Rose Mary Stewart as minister of senior adults and missions; Joe Vitek as minister of pastoral visitation and Susan Warren is now serving as full-time minister to children and families.

• Eric T. Black, to First Church, Galax, as associate pastor for youth ministries.

ORDINATION

• Joe Edwards, minister of youth at Branch's Church, Richmond, was recently ordained to the gospel ministry by the church.

CHURCH NEWS

• Highland Park and Keen Street churches in Danville have merged into one church. United Baptist Church began its ministry at 3400 U.S. Highway 29 in Danville on Sept. 7.

• Atlee Community Church, Mechanicsville, is offering DivorceCare, a support group that helps people heal from the pain of divorce on Tuesdays from 6:30-8:30 p.m. There is DivorceCare for men and women, teens (13-18) and children (5-12). To register or for more information, visit their website: www.divorcecare.com. Click on “find a group.” Enter the “23116” zip code. Concord Association sent its second missions team to the Powell River Baptist Association at the end of July. Some team members worked with Backyard Bible Clubs and at a facility for the mentally handicapped. Another team put shingles on the roof of Meadow Fork Baptist Church and did other odd jobs to help winterize the church.
