BLUEFIELD — Bluefield College has introduced a new scholarship program that will benefit students who come recommended by their local church.
As part of a new Church Matching Scholarship Program, Bluefield College will award up to $1,000 to a student, who simply is recommended by a church that commits to support the student financially, as well.
“Every year we encounter students who make their college choice based on an extra $1,000 in financial aid,” said Toby Ziglar, vice president for enrollment management. “These Church Matching Scholarships will impact the ability of so many students to attend Bluefield College.”
The Church Matching Scholarships will be based on the commitment of the supporting church to contribute to the student. The college will simply match, dollar for dollar up to $1,000, what the church provides. Students, therefore, could earn up to $2,000 in financial aid through the new program.
“Bluefield College greatly appreciates the historic and ongoing relationship it has with churches, particularly Virginia Baptist churches,” said President David Olive. “That's why we are extending these special scholarships to young people who come recommended by their churches. We're fortunate that we can offer these scholarships, but, of course, wish we could do more, because we know there are many more deserving students who need assistance beyond that which these scholarships will provide.”
The college will offer up to 10 Church Matching Scholarships this year for students who plan to enroll at BC in the fall of 2009. For information on how to apply, email the Bluefield College Admissions Office at [email protected], or visit the BC web site at bluefield.edu/prospective.
