 Berryville

ELEVATOR ADDITION
For 126 years worshiping in the sanctuary at Berryville Baptist Church in Berryville required climbing a few outside stone steps, plus a long flight of stairs inside. And the front steps of the church were high and circular. Ten years ago the congregation started an Elevator Fund. A committee was formed in 2005 to develop a long-range plan to include the elevator, a multipurpose fellowship hall and a commercial kitchen. On Nov. 2 members gathered to celebrate the signing of a contract for the construction project. It is expected to be completed in the spring of 2009 and the new elevator will provide access to all three floors of the church building. Pictured are Jim Webb, president of Webb and Sons Contractors, and Dick Hill, chairman of the elevator building committee at Berryville, shaking hands to commemorate the signing of the contract, as Pastor Dallas Stallings looks on.

• Tom McCann, to Rivermont Avenue Church, Lynchburg, as intentional interim pastor.

• Gerry Robinson, to Hatcher Memorial Church, Richmond, as minister of music/worship and discipleship.

• Robert “Bert” Kirk, resigning as associate pastor at Palestine Church, Huddleston, to become church planter for a church in the Virginia Beach area.

• Garry Bone, to Broadus Memorial Church, Richmond, as minister of education and senior adults.

• Kim Gunn, to New Highland Church, Mechanicsville, as minister to children.

• Hector Urrutia, to Primera Iglesia Bautista, Groveton, as associate pastor for youth and young adults.

• Matthew Kozma, minister of youth at Chestnut Hill Church, Lynchburg, was ordained to the gospel ministry by the church on Jan. 25.

124th ANNIVERSARY
Hollywood Baptist Church in Chatham celebrated its 124th year of ministry in 2008. During the celebration service, the church honored Patricia Hedrick who has been playing the organ or piano at the church for over 50 years. The congregation expressed thanks to Patricia for her commitment to the Lord and her faithful service to the church. Pictured (left to right) are: Terry C. St. John, pastor; Patricia Hedrick and her husband, Keen.
