Tournament to benefit seniors. Virginia Baptist Homes Foundation will sponsor the Culpeper Golf Tournament on Monday, Sept. 21, at Country Club of Culpeper. Proceeds from the tournament benefit the Endowed Fund for Seniorships of Culpeper Baptist Retirement Community, a unit of the Virginia Baptist Homes. The fund provides assistance to residents in cases of hardship caused by financial need. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m., followed by lunch and a 1 p.m. shotgun start. Last call for film festival. It is almost curtain call for the 400th anniversary Key Film Festival sponsored by the Center for Baptist Heritage & Studies. Entries must be original video productions created by individual Baptists and designed to share some aspect of the Baptist story. The works can reflect a local, state, national or world story related to Baptists and can focus on a principle, person, place or event. Entries may be submitted in three categories: Youth (ages 12-18) or adult (both amateur and professional). The video must be submitted in high quality DVD format. The deadline is Oct. 1. International seminary has new van, thanks to Virginia Baptists. A new van purchased in part by Virginia Baptists for the International Baptist Theological Seminary in Prague, Czech Republic, will enhance the seminary’s ministry, say the school’s leaders. In June, the seminary received the van, funded by both the Virginia Baptist Mission Board and Bloomsbury Central Baptist Church in London. “Our heartfelt thanks for the rich generosity of Baptists in London and Virginia,” said Keith Jones, president of IBTS. “The IBTS community is truly appreciative.” The white van has the seminary logo emblazoned in purple on the side. It will be driven to Amsterdam at the end of July for the annual gathering of the Baptist World Alliance to be held there.
Ministry assistants plan one-day conference. The Baptist Ministry Assistants of Virginia will host a one-day fall conference on Friday, Sept. 25 at Lakewood Manor in Richmond. Speaker Vivian Clingenpeel will address the topic, “Freedom of Information: Relating to Churches and Associations through Prayer Lists and Websites.” The conference begins at 9:30 a.m. and concludes with lunch. An optional tour of Lakewood Manor is available following lunch. Cost is $8 for BMAV members and $10 for non-members.
