• Brian Adams was ordained to the gospel ministry by First Church, Newport News, on Nov. 1.

CHURCH NEWS

MISSION MOMENT: Worship services on the shore of beautiful Lake Anna were well-received by residents and visitors this summer. Led by Gerald R. Chancellor, pastor of Elk Creek Baptist Church in Mineral, weekly attendance increased throughout the summer, mostly by word of mouth. Music was led by Fran Chancellor with Larry Edmonds on guitar and Todd Olson on the electronic bass. Crowds enjoyed joining in singing old time favorites. Attendance the first Sunday in May began with 28 and on Labor Day weekend 126 people came by car, boat, pontoon boat and jet ski to worship there.

• The Robert Scott Aronson Grief Ministry of Derbyshire Church, Richmond, will sponsor a seminar, “Understanding Grief After the Death of an Infant,” on Nov. 14 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. For more information and to register, call 804-740-7238, ext. 21, or email [email protected].

• Second Church, Richmond, will host the Miller Trio in concert on Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. The trio consists of Bill Miller, minister of music at Second Church; Alan Miller, minister of worship and music at Orange Church, Orange; and Brent Miller, headmaster at Carmel Christian Academy at Carmel Church. They will be accompanied by Russell Wilson, pianist for the Richmond Symphony.

• On Labor Day 2009, four Southside Virginia churches offered travelers at the I-95 rest stop in Skippers free cups of coffee, lemonade and water. Children were given coloring books, crayons and other treats.The churches were Fountain Grove, Main Street and Zion churches in Emporia, and Hebron in Drewryville. Twenty volunteers served approximately 819 travelers.

• Jahnke Road Church, Richmond; revival Nov. 19-22; Lance Yost and Wayne Marker, evangelists; special music each night.

• New Hope Church, Skipwith; 110th homecoming Nov. 15; former pastor Charles Beckett, guest speaker; lunch following the service.
