STAFF CHANGES

• Bill Kittle, resigning as pastor of Rock Hill Church, Stafford, to accept a teaching position in Vermont.

• Wellford Tiller, to Calvary Church, Winchester, as intentional interim pastor.

• Andrew MacDaniel, to Laurel Hill Church, Verona, as part-time music director.

ORDINATION

• Alice Cates, associate pastor of counseling and community formations, at Biltmore Church, Glen Allen, will be ordained to the gospel ministry by the church on Nov. 29.

DEATHS

• Retired Virginia Baptist pastor James Herman Adams died Nov. 17 in Richmond. He had served as pastor of Bethany Place Church, Richmond, and Red Lane Church, Powhatan, and was active in the Middle District Association and the Baptist General Association of Virginia. He was predeceased by his wife, Frances Adams. He is survived by two sons, Donald E. and Robert Adams; and a daughter, Carol Adams Barkstrom; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Nov. 21 at Bethlehem Church, Midlothian Turnpike, Richmond. Interment in the church cemetery.

• Bartlett Philip Dorr, a retired Virginia Baptist minister, died Nov. 20 in Petersburg at the age of 89. He had served as minister at First Church, Richmond and Petersburg, Bayside Baptist in Virginia Beach, and in Waynesville, N.C. He is predeceased by a son, Raymond Dorr and a brother, David Dorr. He is survived by his wife, Lucy Richey Dorr; six children, Daniel, BoonPor, and Thomas Dorr, Kathryn Steen, Jennifer Jenkins, and Marie Applebee; 13 grandchildren; and a brother, Robert Dorr. A memorial service was held Nov. 24 at Bon Air Church, Richmond.

• Retired Virginia Baptist pastor Garvin C. Martin died Nov. 12 at the age of 79. He and his wife served as International Mission Board missionaries to the Philippines for over a decade. He also served as pastor of Bethany Place Church, Richmond, for 23 years. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Compton Martin; two daughters, Wendellyn M. Romine, Hope M. Chenault; two sons, Sidney N. and Lewis P. Martin; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a stepdaughter, Kathleen Compton Westbrook; two stepsons, John Compton III and Paul Compton; and five stepgrandchildren. A memorial service was held Nov. 16 at Bethany Place Church, Richmond.
