RICHMOND — The executive committee of the Virginia Baptist Mission Board has unanimously approved Wayne Faison to be the new team leader for the VBMB's courageous churches team, effective immediately.

Since 2001, Faison has served as the team's African-American and ethnic cvangelism/church planting strategist. He was named interim team leader in January 2007 when former team leader John Chandler resigned to become head of the Ray and Ann Spence Network for Congregational Leadership.
“Wayne has served Virginia Baptists well over the past six years,” said John Upton, executive director of the Virginia Baptist Mission Board. “We know that his passion and vision for advancing the Redeemer's Kingdom here in Virginia will be inspirational to the courageous churches team and to Virginia Baptists across our Commonwealth.”
A Florida native, Faison is a graduate of the University of Florida and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, from which he holds master of divinity and doctor of ministry degrees. From 1997-2001, he served as senior pastor of Canaan Missionary Baptist Church in Flemington, Fla., while also employed as vice president and commercial banker for AmSouth Bank of Florida.
