RETIREMENTS
• Russell Scruggs is retiring as part-time minister of music at Moffett Memorial Church, Danville, effective May 31. He has served as music minister for Moffett Memorial for over 34 years.
• Ed Stansfield has announced plans to retire as pastor of Chester Church, Chester, at the end of September.
• Gerald “Jerry” Stanley who resigned as pastor of New Salem Church, Culpeper, in January, has retired from the active pastorate. He and his wife, Geri, will relocate to Hope, Arkansas.
ORDINATIONS
• Clint B. Jackson was ordained to the gospel ministry on May 20 by Pine Street Church, Richmond.
• Dan Foss, minister of church and discipleship development at Chestnut Hill Church, Lynchburg, was ordained to the gospel ministry by the church on May 20.
DEATH
• Florence Carol Plenninger Lankford, wife of retired Baptist pastor Henry V. Lankford, died on May 2. A memorial service was held at River Road Church, Richmond, on May 13.
CHURCH EVENTS
• The music ministry of Derbyshire Church, Richmond, will host the National CD Release Concerts for ‘Soli Deo Gloria! ASSOCIATIONAL NEWS
• James Manuel is serving as association missionary for the Staunton River Association. He will lead the mission ministry for the association while continuing to serve as pastor of Straightstone Church, Long Island.

• The Resource Center in Richmond is sponsoring Summer Music Fest 2007 on Friday, June 1 at 7:00 p.m. at the Fifth Baptist Church Family Life Center at 1415 West Cary Street in Richmond. This is a benefit concert featuring Pickin' and Praisin', a bluegrass gospel group from Black Creek Church, Mechanicsville; Jim Bennett, pianist from Shady Grove United Methodist Church in Glen Allen; and the Fifth Baptist Church Male Chorus. Brother and Sister Recognized for Service
As part of its yearlong centennial celebration, Emmanuel Church, Amherst, recently recognized Samuel P. Massie Sr. and Eugenia Massie
Farrar for their years of faithful service to the church. Sam has served for 55 years as a deacon and trustee, 30 years as finance chairman, 20 years as men's Sunday school teacher and in many other capacities. Jennie Lee has served for 56 years as a Sunday school teacher, 10 years as WMU director, 50 years as VBS teacher, 50 years as a choir member and 20 years as a deaconess. The church honored Sam by naming him deacon emeritus. Jennie Lee was honored on WMU Focus Day with a luncheon.
Library Worker Recognized
Percy Smith, a member of the Virginia Baptist Media Library Association, was recognized by his church for 36 years of service.
Percy Smith
Smith, retiring library director at Monument Heights Church, Richmond, was honored by his pastor, Randy Clipp, for 36 years of service to the church library. Percy, a former director of the VBMLA, was presented with a certificate of recognition and a reference Bible was placed in the library in his honor. Combined with his prior service as Tabernacle Baptist Church, Richmond, he has been in library work about 50 years. He will remain on the library staff at Monument Heights.
MISSION MOMENTS
Hebron Baptist Church, Afton
Fifteen members from Hebron Church in Afton made a third mission trip to the Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, area in March. The team helped individuals and families continue to rebuild after the devastation. Pictured at left is the Hebron team inside the newly framed and roofed wing of a home for a family in Bay Shores, Mississippi. At right the team installs floor trusses and subfloor for a rebuild in Bay St. Louis.
