• Twyla Turner, minister of youth at United Church, Annandale, was ordained to the gospel ministry by the church on Sept. 8.

•John Christopher “Chris” Killman IV, associate pastor/ minister of youth at Western Heights Church, Petersburg, was ordained to the gospel ministry by the church on July 15.

CHURCH NEWS

• Azalea Church, Norfolk, is hosting a concert with The Mitchum Brothers on Oct. 20 at 7 p.m.

• East End Church, Suffolk, will celebrate the 20th anniversary of Pastor Mark Croston and the 119th anniversary of the church on Oct. 20 at 6 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn in Suffolk. Robert Smith from Beeson Divinity School will be guest speaker. For more information contact the church at 757-539-3324.

• Jim Ailor has resigned as director of missions for Peninsula Association, effective Oct. 19.

• Bonnylee Witt is resigning as director of church and community ministries for the Henry County Association, effective Sept. 28, to become director of Citizens Against Family Violence in Martinsville.

• Todd Cullop has resigned from the staff of NorthStar Church Network, to begin full-time ministry at Convergence: A Creative Community of Faith in Alexandria.

• Charles P. Anderson Jr., and his wife, Betty Jane, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary and 50 years in the gospel ministry on Oct. 12. He has been pastor of nine Virginia Baptist churches and is currently pastor of Winfall Church, Gladys.

MISSIONS MOMENT

Walnut Hills Baptist Church, Williamsburg

Seven members of Walnut Hills Baptist Church went to the Gulfport, Mississippi, area to assist with rebuilding efforts following Hurricane Katrina. They served in conjunction with the North Carolina Baptist Men's recovery unit that has been in operation at the MS National Guard Armory since Sept. 5, 2005. The team assisted a family by removing old flooring and installing ceramic tile in two bedrooms. Team members were: Terri Bolt, Alice Erickson, George (Pete) Fowler, Pete Parks, Kenny Selfe, Linda Simpson and Mike Widdon.
