STAFF CHANGES

• Phil Andrews, to Liberty Church, Hopewell, as senior pastor.

• Michael Alan Jordan, to Mount Vernon Church, Axton, as pastor.

• Bill Sigler, to Saluda Church, Saluda, as pastor.

• Earnie Taylor, resigning as pastor of Union Chapel Church, Clarksville, to begin a new ministry in Alabama.

• Ben Thomas, resigning as pastor of West End Church, Petersburg.

• Fred Adkins, now serving as interim pastor of Immanuel Church, Colonial Heights, while continuing to serve as minister of music.

• Harold Cook, to Villa Heights Church, Roanoke, as interim pastor.

• Garrett Sheldon, to First Church, Big Stone Gap, as interim pastor.

• Donna Rhaney, to Community of Grace Church, Richmond, as interim pastor.

• Mary DeLaine Allcock, to Heritage Church, Farmville, as interim music director.

• Doug Poe, resigning as minister to youth and community at Rivermont Avenue Church, Lynchburg.

• Aubrey L. Sheats, resigning as associate pastor for discipleship and missions at North Roanoke Church, Roanoke, to accept a pastorate in Georgia.

• Michael Walker, to Second Church, Richmond, as interim minister of youth.

• Bowman, to Mayo Mountain Church, Claudville, as part-time youth minister.

• Rusty Lee, to Mount Vernon Church, Glen Allen, as associate minister to students.

• Dustin Montgomery, to Pine Grove Church, Gretna, as part-time youth minister.

• Richard Buerkle, to Memorial Church, Arlington, as minister of music and outreach.

RETIREMENTS

• Joe Bryant, pastor Fieldale Church, Fieldale, has announced his retirement effective Oct. 31.

• David Blakely has retired as pastor of Concord Church, Chase City. A luncheon in his honor was held Aug. 26.

ORDINATION

• Ben Laird, pastor of Trinity Church, Martinsville, was ordained to the gospel ministry on Sept. 2.

DEATH

• Allen J. McKinney, associate pastor of First Church, Ridgeway, died Sept. 12 at the age of 87. He had served as minister in several churches, including Westover Hills Church in Richmond. He is survived by his wife, Grace Lipscomb McKinney; two sons, John and Stacy McKenney; grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held on Sept. 15 in Richmond.

PEOPLE

• Cecil Gholston, associate pastor, and Ron Simmons, music assistant, are celebrating 10 years of ministry at Tabernacle Church, Richmond.

Lowder

• A memorial service for W. James Lowder will be held on Oct. 21 at 6 p.m. at Sandston Church, Sandston, Lowder died on June 24 in Shawnee, Oklahoma. He served as pastor of Calvary Church in Lovingston; Harmony Grove Church in Topping; and Sandston Church where he retired after 21 years as pastor.

MISSIONS MOMENTS

James Square Baptist Church, Lawrenceville

The Girls in Action and Mission Friends at James Square Baptist Church made cards and packed 240 items into care packages to be sent to patients at a Veteran's Hospital for their Christmas-in-August project this year. Both the Elizabeth Spence and Betty Wray Women on Mission groups, along with the congregation, participated in this mission project. Pictured are the GAs and Mission Friends: Caroline, Daniel, Rand, Lauren, Jacob, Vaiden, Makayla, Casie, Allison, Rebecca, Hannah, Kristen, Evan and Jared.

First Baptist Church, Newport News

A team of young single adults (ages 18-30) from First Baptist Church in Newport News traveled to New York City the week of July 16 to host a Day Camp for children in a low-income housing project. Pictured are the team from Newport News with some of the children participating in the camp.
