Thank you for the article about Mike Huckabee in the October 25 issue of the Religious Herald.
While serving eight years as minister of music at First Baptist Church, Hope, Arkansas, it was my pleasure to work closely with Mike Huckabee while he served as pastor of our sister church, Beech Street First Baptist Church in Texarkana, both churches being very active in the Southwest Arkansas Baptist Association and the Arkansas Baptist State Convention. He chaired the association's finance committee on which I also served, and we worked very closely together in this, and other venues.
I was pleased when Mike was elected to be the president of our Arkansas Baptist State Convention — a position in which he served admirably with fairness, love and vision. I had mixed emotions when he stepped down from the pastorate to enter the political arena, but he has served effectively in that capacity, also — even in the face of typical mean-spirited political maneuvers by the opposition party.
I now am fascinated that he is seeking the office of president of our United States, and I am delighted that his campaign is gaining momentum. He is a good and godly man, and his wife, Janet, is a wonderful helpmate. Because of my life-long service in Christian ministry, I am not a political activist, but I pray for Mike, that he will continue to radiate Christ's love for all people, and that his efforts will continue to grow and prosper.
