RICHMOND, Va. (ABP) — Tom Elliff, a former longtime pastor and missionary, is the unanimous choice of a 15-member search committee for a new president of the Southern Baptist Convention International Mission Board, according to Baptist Press.
Elliff, 66, will be presented to the full board of trustees March 15-16 in Dallas. If elected he would succeed Jerry Rankin, who retired in July after 17 years as president.
A former missionary to Zimbabwe, Elliff was pastor of First Southern Baptist Church in Del City, Okla., for 20 years. He was elected president of the Southern Baptist Convention in 1996 and 1997. He worked at the IMB as senior vice president for spiritual nurture and church relations from 2005 until 2009.
