WACO, Texas (ABP) — Baylor University announced June 20 an approximately $4 million gift from the estate of Allene Hubler, which will establish an endowed chair, an endowed professorship and an endowed scholarship in Baylor's religion department.
Hubler's gift will fund the Raymond O. Hubler Chair of Ministry Guidance, the J. David Slover Professorship of Ministry Guidance, and the Raymond O. and Allene Breech Hubler Endowed Scholarship Fund — all of which benefit students in the school's ministry guidance program.
Her gift will also help promote several of the Baylor 2012 imperatives, administrators said. Baylor 2012 is a long-range plan designed to make Baylor one of the top schools of its kind in the nation.
“Endowed faculty positions and student scholarships enable Baylor to attract the best faculty and students,” Baylor President John Lilley said. “I thank Allene and Raymond Hubler for adopting Baylor and providing so generously for ministry guidance's continued excellence.”
Though Hubler lived in Victoria, Texas, and Austin, Texas, in recent years, she was a longtime resident of Ganado, Texas. With her husband, an electrical engineer, she often supported her local Baptist churches and developed an interest in Baylor through her friend Bill Russell, a Baylor alum. She was recognized for her philanthropy to the university in 1991 by her induction as a member of the Medallion Fellowship. She died May 16, 2007, at the age of 98.
