WASHINGTON (ABP) — House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has appointed a Boston academic who is an expert on international relations and religious issues to a federal panel that monitors religious freedom worldwide.
Pelosi appointed Boston University professor Elizabeth Prodromou to the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom Oct. 13. Prodromou is associate director of the school's Institute on Culture, Religion and World Affairs and a specialist on religion and international relations and conflict resolution in southeastern Europe and the eastern Mediterranean.
According to the commission, Prodromou is currently working on two books about Orthodox Christianity. She holds master's and doctoral degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, as well as a master's degree from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy and an undergraduate degree from Tufts University.
USCIRF is an independent, non-partisan federal agency that monitors religious-liberty issues around the globe and makes policy recommendations to U.S. officials. Its members are nominated by the president and members of Congress from both parties.
