HATTERAS, N.C. (ABP) — Once again Baptist volunteers are helping with clean-up efforts in the wake of a hurricane along the East Coast.
Hurricane Alex hit North Carolina's Outer Banks on Aug. 3 bringing 100 mph winds, heavy rain and a storm surge that flooded homes on Ocracoke Island and Hatteras.
Gaylon Moss, who coordinates disaster-relief efforts for North Carolina Baptist Men, said about 40 North Carolina Baptists are expected to be in the Hatteras Village area this weekend. An assessment team was in the area the morning after the storm hit, he said.
The relief efforts are scheduled to begin Aug. 6 with volunteers tearing out carpet and walls damaged by floods and cleaning up debris in yards, Moss said.
