David has been the chief executive officer of Baptist News Global and its predecessor, Associated Baptist Press, since 2008.
As executive director and publisher, David oversees all aspects of the nonprofit news organization’s work, including direct responsibilities for administration and fundraising. He also serves as the editor for all original opinion content published at baptistnews.com. He works out of BNG’s administrative offices in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
David has more than four decades of professional experience in Baptist life, including stints as chief communications officer for the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, as associate editor of a missions magazine, and as communications director for the former Southern Baptist Christian Life Commission. He also served as minister of education and discipleship at Broadway Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas. He holds doctor of ministry and master of divinity degrees from Southern Seminary and a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Oklahoma Baptist University.
David and Melanie have been married since December 1977. They have two adult children, a daughter-in-law and two granddaughters. When he is not traveling on behalf of BNG, David enjoys playing grandpa (or “Bop” to the granddaughters), excursions with Melanie, and feeding an appetite for good food, good movies and good reads.
