DEATHS

James A. Scott, died May 15 in Newark, N.J. He had served as president of the American Baptist Churches USA and for 37 years he was senior pastor of Bethany Baptist Church in Newark. He was an associate professor of urban education at Rutgers University in Newark. He is survived by his wife, Muriel; children, Lindal Scott Foster and Kimberly Scott; stepchildren, Lisa and Clayton Gregory; a great granddaughter; and four step grandchildren.

Horace H. Stoddard, 80, died June 1 in Pine City, N.Y. He served as pastor of First Baptist Church, Lancaster, N.Y., from 1965-1974. He was then called as pastor of Pine City (N.Y.) Baptist Church where he served from 1974 to his retirement in 2007. He served on the church development board of the American Baptist Churches of New York State. He is survived by his wife, Ruth; two daughters, Amy Lybarger and Jill Dombroske; a son, Scott; and three grandchildren.

He was founder of Multi-Media Evangelism, through which he had a ministry to the deaf. He is survived by his wife, Christine; and two sons, Mark and Tim.

DEATH

Robert “Bob” D. Dale, 80, died April 30 in Mechanicsville, Va. He served as a pastoral care expert for the SBC Baptist Sunday School Board (now Lifeway Christian Resources). He then served as professor of pastoral leadership and church ministries at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, N.C., the seminary’s Director of Doctoral Studies and later as the seminary’s dean. He later served as adjunct professor at the Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond (Va.), and at many seminaries over the years. He founded the Creative Church Leadership Center and the Young Leaders Program while serving on the staff of the Virginia Baptist Mission Board. He retired in 2009 as the Virginia Baptist Mission Board’s assistant executive director-chief operating officer. He authored more than 20 books on pastoral leadership and mentored hundreds of pastors and taught thousands of seminary students. He is survived by his wife, Carrie; son, Cassidy; daughter, Amy Dawn Dale; and two grandchildren.

We are seeking an early-to-mid-career professional to help design and execute our digital-advocacy campaigns; engage in research to help make our campaigns more strategic; and collaborate with our members, organizational partners, and coalitions. We are seeking a candidate who either has a strong understanding of faith and progressive politics/advocacy today, or who has a background in the basic principles of online organizing.
