Would reforms to address flaws in senior care facilities, proven amid a pandemic to be fatal for far too many older persons, have prevented the death of my sister? Perhaps not. Would they have made her last weeks less painful and traumatic? Of that I have no doubt.

Clarissa Strickland, who was a member of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship staff for 23 years, is now semi-retired. She does proofreading and copyediting for several clients – work ideally suited to rainy days, pajamas and the occasional pandemic. She is a member of Smoke Rise Baptist Church in Stone Mountain, Georgia, where she is the current chair of the Fellowship of Deacons.
