The Center for Baptist Heritage & Studies announces the appointment of three Baptist students from Virginia colleges to the 2005-06 Heritage Fellows program.
The selected students are Diana Howell of Lynchburg College and Katherine Major and Karen Vassar of the College of William & Mary.
Each year Fellows are assigned projects on a specific topic. This year's theme is “missions delivery” and will require each Fellow to interview extensively several local, regional and state missionaries or mission leaders.
The competition for a Heritage Fellows position is rigorous and requires a high GPA, active involvement in one's faith community and demonstration of leadership ability. Applicants must answer several questions regarding Baptist heritage during the application process and once selected are given materials to read on that year's theme.
The Heritage Fellows will meet for a workshop May 9-11 in Richmond. During the meeting, the Fellows will meet Baptist leaders at state, national and worldwide levels.
The program provides a stipend of $3,000 for each student during the 2005-06 academic year while each student works on a project related to Baptist heritage.
The Heritage Fellows will be honored at the annual meeting and program of the Virginia Baptist Historical Society and the Center for Baptist Heritage & Studies. The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m., May 10, at First Baptist Church in Richmond.
