WASHINGTON — The 15th Baptist Youth World Conference is to be held July 30 to Aug. 3 in Leipzig, Germany. Dean Miller, missions learning coordinator for the Virginia Baptist Mission Board, has played a key role in coordinating the event. More than 5,000 young people, many of them from Virginia, are preparing to attend the conference from around the world.
Themed “Dive Deeper,” the event will encourage the attendees to engage in deeper levels of commitment to Christ, in the study of God's Word, in mission and in fellowship.
There will be events in the program for collective worship and study, such as morning worship services, concerts, and evening sessions with keynote speakers including Edward Alabi from Nigeria, Asha Sanchu from Nagaland, India, Denise de Vasconcelos Araujo from Brazil, and Shane Claiborne and Zach Hunter from the USA.
Small group experiences, including family groups, will provide a forum for study, fellowship, networking and cultural exchange.
Mission will be a key emphasis of the conference. Opportunities are available for youth to participate in mission projects prior to and following the conference, not just within Germany, but throughout Europe.
