A pair of robbers being chased by police turned Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis into the scene of more than Christmas drama on Monday.
According to media reports, the Southern Baptist Convention megachurch was evacuated and searched after a robbery at a nearby apartment complex.
The crime occurred around 12:40 p.m. when two men approached two women in a vehicle and demanded their money, Memphis television station WREG Channel 3 reported on its website.
The men reportedly shot at the women without injuring them.
The suspects then fled on foot with police in hot pursuit, television station WMC Channel 5 reported.
The chase led to Bellevue, where a witness reported seeing the suspects in the church parking lot.
Officers accompanied by police dogs evacuated the building but did not find the suspects in the church.
