BLUEFIELD — Bluefield College has received a $25,000 grant to support its new instrumental music program.
The Ratcliffe Foundation of Tazewell presented the grant July 27 to school officials.
Bluefield launched its new program last spring and school administrators say it meets a significant need.
“We currently have a documented shortage of qualified band directors and instrumental instructors,” said Andrew Necessary, head of the instrumental music department. Each year thousands of young men and women participate in marching band and ensembles in public schools, but unfortunately these talented individuals are unable to pursue collegiate experience and explore career opportunities in this field. That’s why Bluefield College identified this as a priority program to implement.”
