Jeffrey Buffkin has been named Baptist collegiate minister at the College of William and Mary, effective May 1.
In announcing Buffkin's appointment, Greg Alexander, collegiate/
young adult ministry strategist for the Virginia Baptist Mission Board's emerging leaders team, said, “We believe God has been faithful in leading us to the right person to lead our students as they walk toward maturity in Christ.” Alexander also noted that current students in the William and Mary Baptist collegiate ministry are excited about Buffkin's leadership and eager for him to begin his ministry with them.
In addition to directing all Baptist collegiate ministries at William and Mary, Buffkin's responsibilities will include managing the BCM building (which is owned by the Mission Board) and relating to both the association and the region as their liaison to William and Mary students.
Buffkin has been the Baptist collegiate minister at the University of Maryland in College Park since 2002. Prior to that time, he served in California as director of student work for the Sierra Butte Baptist Association and advisor to the Fellowship of Christian University Students at California State University in Chico. He has also served churches in Texas and Virginia in ministry to college-aged adults and youth.
A Virginia native, Buffkin is a graduate of Virginia Tech, where he was an active member of the Baptist Student Union, and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. He and his wife, Melanie, have two sons and a daughter.
