The Canadian Baptist Ministries board of directors announced Sept. 23 the election of Terry Smith, a former missionary to France who has led the 1,000-church organization’s global mission strategy and partnerships, to a five-year term as executive director.
Smith, who has served with Canadian Baptist Ministries 21 years, takes over Sept. 25 the post held by Sam Chaise from 2010 to 2015. As executive director, he will be chief executive officer, overseeing operations and providing leadership in setting the strategic direction for the organization and serving as the liaison between CBM’s board of directors and the staff.
Formed in a merger in 1995, Canadian Baptist Ministries serves as a national umbrella of four regional conventions and unions, along with three women’s ministries, representing more than 1,000 churches and 100,000 members who worship in 32 different languages. The group works with national partners to support mission programs on four continents. CBM is a member of the Baptist World Alliance and the North American Baptist Fellowship.
