Staff Change

Kathy S. Shereda, to High Hills Church, Jarratt, as pastor, effective May 1.

Mack C. Scott Jr., to Temple Church, Norfolk, as pastor, effective April 23.

Todd Childers, to Norwood Church, Forest, as pastor.

John Rayburn, to Glade Spring Church, Glade Spring, as interim pastor.

Robbie McLaughlin, to Trinity Church, Bedford, as associate pastor of youth and children.

Ginger Bell, to Hunting Creek Church, Big Island, as part-time minister of music.

David A. Hughes, retiring as minister of music, senior adults, visitation and outreach at Orcutt Church, Newport News.

Gary Bazer, resigning as associate pastor for youth at McCabe Memorial Church, Martinsville, to accept a pastorate in Texas.

Paul Walters, to Preston Oaks Church, Roanoke, as full-time minister of music/ worship and education.

Mitch Turner, resigning as minister of students at North Roanoke Church, Roanoke, to return to seminary.

Death

Cynthia Leigh Maxwell Benfield died on March 12 at the age of 41. She had served as children's minister at Bethel Church, Midlothian, sharing her gifts in music and puppets. She is survived by her husband, James Benfield Jr.; her mother, Evalene Maxwell; three brothers; two sisters; two nephews; and two nieces. A memorial service will be held on April 28 at the Missionary Learning Center in Rockville.

Ordinations

Jason N. “Brent” Kimlick was ordained to the gospel ministry on April 9 by River Road Church, Richmond.

Randy Moore, interim pastor at Clinchco Missionary Chapel, Clinchco, will be ordained to the gospel ministry by Nash's Chapel Church, Wise, on May 6.

Church News

James Square Church, Lawrenceville, will host The Miracle Mile Walk on Sat., May 13, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to raise funds for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Other

Two long-time members of Baptist Temple Church in Alexandria, the late Kathy Wilson and church member Joan Dale, were recently honored by the Alexandria Commission on Women for their work on behalf of children and women. Wilson was a posthumous recipient of the Marguerite Payez Award and Dale was a recipient of the “Making A Difference” award.
