Mary Louise Marquis, to Second Church, Petersburg, as director of music and organist.

Angie Bryant, to Tabernacle Church, Salem, as director of children's ministry.

Ordination

Kristin Adkins Whitesides, a graduate of Duke Divinity School and the University of Richmond, was ordained to the gospel ministry by Starling Avenue Church, Martinsville, on June 19.

Seminary Graduates

Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond held commencement exercises on May 28. Twenty-five persons with Virginia ties were awarded degrees. Receiving the master of divinity degree were Bryn Bagby of Richmond; Bryan Michael Brooks of Windsor; Emily Browning of Richmond; Kim W. Chafee of Midlothian; Vanessa M. Ellison of Richmond; Melissa Fallen of Richmond; John H. Hamlett of Richmond; Todd D. Higginson of Richmond; Gregory R. Jarrell of Richmond; Susan A. Joyce of Farmville; Michael Kellett of Richmond; Nicole D. Matthews of Falls Church; David McEntire of Louisa; Brent Miller of Richmond; Joseph P. Rawley IV of Richmond; Thomas M. Rawls of Mechanicsville; Allison W. Rothschild of Richmond; Sheila D. Russ of Glen Allen; Keiko Tani of Richmond; Briana Leigh Grose Whaley of Richmond; Jason R. Williams of Richmond and S. Karen Workman of Richmond. Receiving the doctor of ministry degree were Ann Sidney Charlescraft of Richmond; James R. Colvin of Richmond; Rhonda VanDyke Colby of Richmond; and David S. Elks of Franklin.

Deaths

Retired Virginia Baptist pastor George W. Barnes died in Yorktown on June 17 at the age of 71. For 43 years he had served as pastor of seven Virginia Baptist churches. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; four sons, Daniel, David, Dwayne and Darell Barnes; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters and a brother. Funeral services were held at Liberty Church in Lanexa on June 19 with interment in the church cemetery.

H. Grady Jarrard Jr., a retired Virginia Baptist pastor, died in Richmond on July 3 at the age of 76. He had served as pastor of churches in Alabama, Virginia and overseas in Arabia to a multinational congregation. He is survived by his wife, Beth F. Jarrard; one daughter, Melissa Jarrard-Mahayni; two step-daughters, Betsy Dessauer and Emilie Nicotra; and two grandchildren. Funeral services were held July 8 at Glen Allen Baptist Church, Glen Allen.

Church News
Central Church, Church Road, will hold homecoming on July 31. The Lamplighters will be special musical guests at the 11:00 a.m. service. Dinner on the grounds will follow the service.

Oak Grove Church, Oak Grove, will celebrate homecoming on July 17. Dinner on the grounds will follow the morning service. Revival is scheduled for July 17-20 with Clayton Custalow as guest evangelist.

Waverly Place Church, Roanoke, will hold revival services July 17-20 with Rick Via as guest evangelist.

Westover Church, Arlington, will celebrate its 65th anniversary on July 17. Bill Hardison will be guest speaker. A luncheon will follow the service.
