Ordination
Linda C. Moore, youth minister at Glen Allen Church, Glen Allen, will be ordained to the gospel ministry by the church on June 26 at 3:00 p.m.
Church News
Fieldale Church, Fieldale, will observe its 86th anniversary with homecoming on June 26. Rod Hale, field strategist with the Virginia Baptist Mission Board, will be guest speaker. Lunch will be served following the 10:45 a.m. service.
Robert C. McKinley, and his wife Barbara, were honored by Beale Memorial Church, Tappahannock, on June 5 on his retirement as pastor after 28 years of faithful service.
Providence Church, Hayes, will celebrate homecoming on July 3. Interim pastor Jack Wilder and guest minister Bill Corey will speak at the “God and Country” worship celebration at 10:30 a.m. A church picnic will follow.
Seminary Graduates
Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky., held its 195th graduation commencement on May 13. Two persons with Virginia ties received degrees. Brian E. Bales of Springfield received the doctor of education degree and Kyle T. McDaniel of Prince George was awarded the master of divinity degree.
Death
Former Virginia Baptist pastor Oscar William “Bill” Rhodenhiser Jr. died June 3 at the age of 83. He was professor of religion at the University of Richmond for 37 years, serving as chairman of the department, the George and Sallie Cutchin Camp professor of Bible and the Solon B. Cousins professor of religion. He was named professor of religion emeritus upon his retirement in 1992. He served as pastor of churches in Kentucky, Virginia and North Carolina and as interim pastor at more than 20 churches. He is survived by his wife, Nancye Haymes Rhodenhiser; two sons, Bill and James; two daughters, Linda and Ann Verlander; nine grandchildren; and a brother. A memorial service was held June 7 at Grace Church, Richmond.
