Terry Riddle, resigning as minister of church and community partnership at Port Norfolk Church, Portsmouth, to become a caseworker with the Portsmouth Volunteers for the Homeless.
Dawn Upton, to Smyrna Church, Dinwiddie, as director of children's ministries, effective July 1.
Linda Moore, resigning as youth minister at Glen Allen Church, Glen Allen, to accept a call to First Church, Newton, Mass., as minister of Christian education.
Retirements
Tom Keehan, retiring as pastor of Old Powhatan Church, Powhatan, effective Oct. 22.
Elton Cooke, coordinator of community ministries for Middle District Association, will retire on Dec. 15. He and his wife, Barbara, will teach at the Mt. Meru University in Arusha, Tanzania.
Ordination
Matthew Paxson, associate pastor at Riverview Church, Woodbridge, was ordained to the gospel ministry on May 7.
Church News
The Revelation Choir, home from their summer mission trip to Louisville, Ky., will present a special evening of music and testimonies at Bon Air Church, Richmond, on July 12 at 7:30 p.m.
Enon Church, Supply, will celebrate homecoming on June 25 at 11 a.m. Former pastor Richard Headley will be speaker. The service will be followed by lunch on the grounds. “Sonrise” will be in concert at an afternoon service. Revival will be held June 26-28 with Dan Cook as guest evangelist.
Gethsemane Church, Richlands, will be celebrating “Five Fabulous Fellowships” on Sunday evenings in July. On July 2 there will be a cookout. July 9 will feature the drama team from Bluefield College, “Re:Creations.” July 16 is a community block party. The youth will sponsor movie night on July 23 and the Fifth Sunday Night Sing will be on July 30.
Correction
Jerry Holcomb will not retire as pastor of King's Grant Church, Virginia Beach, until June 17, 2007.
Praise in the Park: An Outreach Event in Shenandoah Valley
Praise in the Park will be held at Gypsy Hill Park in Staunton beginning July 9 at 3 p.m. and will continue each Tuesday night from July 11 through August 29. The fourth annual Praise in the Park will feature “The Martins,” a Southern gospel group which has performed with the Gaithers. There will be food and activities for children. Music will begin at 3 p.m. with performances by “Regeneration,” “Spirit Led,” and “The Coachmen” at 6 p.m. The members of Linden Heights Church in Staunton use this opportunity to touch their neighbors. The financial support of the Augusta Association, other area churches, businesses and individuals, make possible this ongoing interdenominational ministry in the Shenandoah Valley.
