Staff Changes

Randy Moore, to Clinchco Missionary Chapel, Clinchco, as interim pastor.

Mike Jones, to Enon Church, Roanoke, as interim pastor.

Nick Pegram, resigning as minister of education and administration at Manassas Church, Manassas, after 17 years of service.

Krista Manuel, to Harmony Grove Church, Topping, as minister of youth.

Jeff Boose, to New Hope Church, Appomattox, as minister of youth.

Estelle Chandler, to Greater Little Zion Church, Fairfax, as youth and children's pastor.

Deaths

Retired Virginia Baptist pastor Max Abernathy Greene died on March 11 in Charlottesville at the age of 82. He had served as a pastor of Mine Road, Good Hope and Hebron churches in Spotsylvania; Hanover Church, King George; Ruckersville Church, Ruckersville; and retired from Bybee's Road Church, Troy. He is survived by his wife, Flora Clark Greene; two sons, Daniel and John Thomas Greene; three daughters, Sara Jo Keys, Martha Purvis and Melissa Keatts; 12 grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Funeral service was held March 14 at Bybee's Road Church in Troy.

Retired Virginia Baptist pastor Nathan Campbell “Cam” Napier died March 23 at the age of 84. He began his ministry as associate pastor of Weatherford Memorial Church in Richmond. He was pastor of Thaxton Church, Thaxton, for 18 years, and Mount Hermon Church in Bedford for 17 years. He also served churches in Petersburg, Baskerville and Martinsville. He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy Green Napier. The Napiers raised five children and two grandchildren: David Y. Napier Sr., Mary N. Atkins, Jonathan C. Napier, Martha N. Aldhizer, Dorothy Gall, David Y. Napier Jr. and Mary Napier-Lovejoy. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held April 9 at 2:00 p.m. at Mount Hermon Church, Bedford.

Rupert Roland Powell, retired Virginia Baptist pastor, died March 17 at the age of 86. He served churches in Tennessee and Kentucky and as pastor of Stuarts Draft Church, Stuarts Draft, and Matoaca Church in Matoaca. Upon his retirement he served as interim pastor of several churches. He was active in associational work and served as president of the Virginia Baptist Pastors Conference and on the faculty at Eagle Eyrie Baptist Conference Center. He was predeceased by a daughter, Roberta Perdue. He is survived by his wife, Blanche P. Powell; two daughters, Patricia Johnson and Rebecca Sparrow; and five grandchildren. A funeral service was held March 21 at Matoaca Church, Matoaca.

Ordination

James Reese, pastor of Roanoke Avenue Church, Roanoke, was ordained to the gospel ministry on Feb. 26 by Riverdale Church, Roanoke.

Salem Church, Sparta, is hosting “Saving Sound,” a skate rally and battle of the bands competition targeted to appeal to unchurched youth on Saturday, April 29 with the battle of the bands beginning at 1:00 p.m. and the “asphalt assault tour” from 6:00-9:00 p.m. Tickets are available through www.itickets.com or by contacting Salem Church at 804-633-5583 or www.salembaptist.org.
