Ordinations
Kim Chafee, choir director at Bethel Church, Midlothian, was ordained to the gospel ministry by the church on April 3.
Michael A. Garner will be ordained to the gospel ministry on May 22 by Webber Memorial Church, Richmond.
Sheila Russ, director of youth at Westhunt Church, Richmond, will be ordained to the gospel ministry by the church on June 5 at 3:00 p.m.
Church News
Azalea Church, Norfolk, will host an evening of gospel music by The Harvesters of Sanford, N.C., on Friday, June 3 at 7:30 p.m.
Bethlehem Church, Penick Road, Richmond, will observing homecoming on May 22 at 11:00 a.m. Guest speaker will be Diana Cole Veazey. There will be dinner on the grounds and a musical concert by the Hatcher Memorial Church youth group.
Bethel Church, Palmyra, along with other churches in Fluvanna County, will host the “Children of the World” International Children's Choir on June 7 at 7:30 p.m. at Central Elementary School auditorium. A love offering will be taken to support WORLD HELP.
First Church, Richmond, will celebrate its 225th anniversary June 12. Worship services will be at 8:30 and 11:00 a.m. An historical journey will take place at 9:30 a.m. There will be dinner on the grounds with the burial of a time capsule at 1:00 p.m.
Hillcrest Church, Ridgeway, will observe homecoming on June 5. Eddie Honeycutt, director of missions for Henry County Association, will be guest speaker. The Harvesters Quartet will bring special music.
Manly Memorial Church, Lexington, will observe Loyalty Day on May 22 with John Gordon as guest speaker.
Morgans Church, Moneta, will hold revival services May 22-27 with Glen Sellers as guest evangelist.
Webber Memorial Church, Richmond, will celebrate its 84th homecoming June 5. Guest speaker will be former pastor J. Michael Poole. Dinner on the grounds will follow the 10:30 a.m. service.
Death
Former Virginia Baptist pastor J. C. Spence of Patrick Springs died April 19 at the age of 79. He had served as pastor of Mayo Mountain Church in Claudville and First Southern Church in Patrick Springs. He is survived by his wife, Josie H. Spence; daughter, Glenda Mawhinney; son, Larry Spence; five sisters and five brothers. Funeral services were held April 21 at Howell Funeral Home in Stuart.
