The latest on Virginia Baptists' disaster relief ministries.
• Hurricane Wilma: Virginia Baptist Disaster Relief teams are once more springing into action to assist victims of Hurricane Wilma in Florida. Our feeding unit that had been assigned to Slidell, La., was shut down last Thursday and moved Sunday, Oct. 23, to Lake Yale, a Florida Baptist Conference Center in Leesburg. Feeding units from several state conventions are meeting there in anticipation of being assigned to specific areas of need.
The feeding unit formerly assigned to DeRitter, La., has returned to Fredericksburg where it has been prepared for use in Florida if needed.
Feeding team members left Virginia Monday and Tuesday to begin work as soon as they receive an assignment.
• Pakistan earthquake: Virginia Baptist disaster relief coordinator Terry Raines is in Pakistan with other Baptist relief workers. He emailed a report Oct. 24. See page 3.
• Grenada response: The Grenada Baptist Association presented Craig Waddell, a VBMB staff member, with a check for $1,038.59 to go to the VBMB for Disaster Relief. The Grenadian churches collected this money after Katrina, and wanted their help to be in the context of our partnership with the Caribbean Baptist Fellowship. The Grenada Baptists are sending a team of four to assist one of our recovery teams in November.
