• Dennis Moore, retiring as pastor of Beaverdam Church, Vinton, after serving there for 34 years.
DEATHS
• Former Virginia Baptist pastor James Archie “Jim” Carroll died Dec. 20 in Olive Hill, Kentucky, at the age of 72. He served several interim pastorates in the Bedford area of Strawberry Association and was full-time pastorate of Radford Church in Moneta. He is survived by his wife, Lois Burton Carroll.
• Retired Virginia Baptist minister Cecil E. Marsh died Jan. 18 in Richmond at the age of 77. He was the first pastor of Randolph Memorial Church, Madison Heights. He joined the staff of the Virginia Baptist Mission Board in 1967 and served in numerous capacities there until 1994. He developed statewide programs at Eagle Eyrie for Junior and Senior High weekends, youth retreat, pastor-deacon retreat, state drama festival and youth ministry workshop. He was founder and supporter of the Virginia Baptist Ministers’ Wives Association and the Virginia Baptist Secretaries Association. After his retirement in 1994, he involved in a number of interim ministries. He is survived by is wife, Betty Montgomery Marsh; two sons, Curtis Lewis Marsh and Lawrence Cecil Marsh; and five grandchildren. A celebration of his life was held at Grace Church, Richmond; and a memorial service at Randolph Memorial Church, Madison Heights.

• “First Fridays: A Day of Retreat for Ministers and Other Servants” will begin Feb. 5 at 9 a.m. at Richmond Hill, 2209 E. Grace Street, Richmond. First Fridays is a monthly opportunity for a day of retreat and quiet reflection and spiritual renewal. Structure and guidance will be provided for those who want it as well as the option for one-on-one spiritual direction. Or you can spend the day in silence. Leading will be Mimi Weaver, a seasoned retreat facilitator, and owner of GraceMoves, with a private practice in life coaching and spiritual direction.
