DEATH
• Retired Virginia Baptist pastor Francis H. Funk died on June 6 at the age of 76. He served as pastor of Greenville Church, Greenville, for 53 years, retiring on June 1, 2008. He served as the Augusta Association’s representative on the Virginia Baptist Mission Board. He was president and secretary/treasurer for the Augusta Pastor’s Conference and moderator of Augusta Association for two years. He is survived by his wife, Audrey Hogge Funk; a daughter, Lisa F. Kaylor; a sister, Ann F. Davis; and two brothers, John J. Funk and Edwin Funk. A funeral service was held June 9 at Greenville Church with burial at the Singers Glen Cemetery.
CHURCH EVENTS
• Azalea Church, Norfolk, will host an evening of gospel music with McMillan and Life from Nashville, Tenn., on July 11 at 7 p.m. A love offering will be taken.
• Harmony Grove Church, Topping, will celebrate its 150th anniversary on June 21 at 10:30 a.m. Roger Collier and Terry Sharpe will bring the message. The service will feature former pastors Dennis Tucker and Dave Puchot and former interim pastors Edward Harrow and Chet Smith. A luncheon will follow the service. At 1:00 p.m. there will be a dedication to plant several oak trees on the grounds.

• Fieldale Church, Fieldale; 90th anniversary; homecoming June 28 at 9:45 a.m.; dinner on the grounds.
• First Church, Galax; homecoming June 28 at 11 a.m.; former pastor Ken Hemphill, guest speaker; dedication of stained glass wall in baptistry; service followed by old-fashioned Sunday Dinner.
PEOPLE
• L. Wilbur Kersey celebrated his 50th anniversary as pastor of Court Street Baptist Church in Portsmouth on June 14. The celebration theme was “Cloud of Witnesses” and the service included special music and sharing which was followed by a fellowship reception.
• Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky., held its 203rd graduation on May 15. Students with Virginia ties recieving degrees were: Michael P. Anderson of Roanoke, master of divinity degree; Ji D. Dho of Virginia Beach, doctor of ministry degree; Marisa B. Eckard of Danville, master of arts in biblical counseling degree; Stephen C. Floyd of Great Falls, master of divinity degree; Paul E. Hudson of Norfolk, master of divinity degree; and Jeremy K. Smith of Fairfax, master of divinity degree.
